Technology at Belle Sherman:

We are excited about the use of technology to enhance education and communication here at Belle Sherman. According to Alison Provan, "Belle Sherman teachers are using technology in many different ways to support student learning -- from making lessons more interactive and individualized to using online resources to illustrate concepts with real-life connections to finding innovative ways to share students' progress with families and the world." Here are some examples of the programs currently in use at our school:

  • Raz-kids.com (leveled online books for student use in and out of school)
  • readinga-z.com (teacher resource with printable leveled books, plays, etc)
  • Tumblebooks.com (leveled online books for student use in and out of school)
  • Kodakgallery.com and picasa.google.com (share digital pictures from school with families)
  • ed.voicethread.com (digital storytelling as students record comments on photographs
  • gcast.com (record students with a phone and share the recordings as a podcast
  • skype.com and ichat (web chat programs for communicating with Kids Discover the Trail field trip partner classes at other schools and other resources)
  • Garage Band (record student read alouds for monitoring progress throughout the year)
  • docs.google.com (create webforms for scheduling conferences and student surveys)
  • google.com/calendar (create online calendars for class snack schedules and special events)
  • Kidspiration (interactive program where children can create graphic organizers and visual representations of various concepts)
  • SMARTboard (interactive white boards, especially helpful in math instruction)
  • Everyday Math Games! (online math activities and games used in conjunction with the daily math curriculum)

Google images & digital pictures in class newsletters (to illustrate information, especially for ESOL students/families and emergent readers)
