The school nurse provides the school community with health and safety support including, but not limited, to the following:

  • Mandated vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings
  • Student’s cumulative health records, including immunization records
  • First aid and emergency response
  • Health education for students, staff and families
  • Collaboration and communication about health needs for students
  • Communicable disease control
  • Health promotion strategies
  • Direct skilled nursing care
  • Guidance for families
  • Interscholastic sports approval
Simple but IMPORTANT steps to stop the spread of disease:
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing and sneezing. Throw out the tissue in the nearest waste basket and wash your hands.
  • If you don't have a tissue, don't cough or sneeze into your hand. Instead, cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm so you won't get germs on your hands and spread them to others.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. When hand washing is not possible, use antiseptic hand gels that contain alcohol.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Keep your children home when they are sick. (Call the school to inform them.)
